About Jim Dukes

Jim Dukes is a North Carolina-based photographer creating fine art photography centered on stillness, impermanence, and careful observation. His work combines macro nature photography, atmospheric Southern landscapes, and studio still lifes built from objects collected during field sessions.

Before focusing on fine art photography, Dukes spent years photographing emotionally significant human experiences, including work with disabled veterans, portraits, weddings, and healing-focused photography workshops. That background continues to shape his current work, which approaches landscape and natural subjects with the same sense of intimacy, vulnerability, and attention once directed toward people.

His photographs often explore temporary moments—dew before sunrise, weathered bark after rain, fungi emerging from decay, fragile textures, and found objects revisited later in controlled studio light. Through these images, Dukes examines the relationship between memory, place, time, and attention.

Working slowly and intentionally, his process emphasizes observation over spectacle and emotional resonance over visual excess.
