The Observations
Six prints. Available now.
About the work
Jim Dukes is a photographer based in North Carolina. His practice centers on careful observation — dew before sunrise, weathered bark after rain, the textures that most people experience as background. The Observations are guided by a single principle: observation over spectacle. Each image is made to hold what a quick glance would lose.
These are photographs made slowly, from the ground up.
Jim Dukes has spent years working through the landscape and light of the American South — not looking for the spectacular, but for what holds still long enough to mean something. The Observations are the result of that looking: six archival prints drawn from two series, Observational Studies and Ephemeral South, each made to order on archival paper from Japan.
The six prints now available are the first to reach the store. They will rotate quarterly as the work evolves.
